Personality: Roy is a man who has always performed his job thoroughly, efficiently and when it is needed, quickly, and does so in an excessively strict manner. However, he isn't always hard on other people- otherwise his job would be that much harder, and his home life a bit boring. He likes to do a bit of gambling and loves swimming more than anything else.

He treats his poke'mon as friends and coworkers, and Ruya as family. Is he playing favorites? Maybe. His Wailord Erik, his bisharp Lt. Bishop and his lapras Gregory don't seem to mind this at all, she's been on his team longer than the others and so they feel she has a closer bond with him as a result. Carrie, his cubone, is only a little jealous, but not enough for them not to get along.

But how he acts around family is different than when he is among coworkers. He's considerably more relaxed, he'll chat you up all night long while sipping mint tea and is a little more open about himself in the comfort of his own home. But out on the work field, he stays straight to the point, makes it about the objective rather than himself, and believes that, while working, asking personal questions is a distraction from what he's doing.

TL;DR He's a hard-ass among coworkers and on the job, but a bit of a softie among family, and his pokemon don't mind that.

Backstory: He was born and raised on Cinnabar island, and his first pokemon was a water type- a kabuto. The two went on their journey for badges together, and after only six months, Roy managed to get all 8 badges and make it to the elite four. He underestimated their power, and realized that the four pokemon he had -kabuto, kadabra, munna and cubone- were not enough.

He beat them two years later, and as soon as he did, he stopped to assess his future: what would he do with these poke'mon, and with himself? He couldn't stay on the road forever, he always had barely enough money to get by. This prompted him to return home and continue his education, and after graduating, he started training for the police force right away.

The next several years led to a wife, a police badge, a cozy home on the shore, and children. His pokemon grew old, and would pass away, leaving him with their children. Nowadays he has Ruya, grandaughter of his original munna, by his side, as well as a lapras, cubone (unrelated to the first), a wailord, and a bisharp. They retreated to Pallet Town when the volcano erupted, and have remained there since.

Then GRN team arrived with an interesting proposition...

TL;DR He got the 8 badges really fast, married, became a cop and now has the granddaughter of his first pokemon on his team.
